Henry Mansfield and his new Piano Rock EP

I can spot the real deal a mile away when it comes to song writing talent, Henry Mansfield is the real deal. He will be headed off to music school for good reasons, he has a gift. I was lucky enough to have him pick me to record, mix and master his new and soon-to-release EP titled “The View From Radio Towers”. It was a blast to record 5 tracks with Henry and two of his school buddies over a day and a half. He had planned for four but things went so smoothly they decided to add “Ocean” at the last minute, good thinking, as the song turned out superb!

We tracked Henry’s Piano, Nick Reeves on Bass and Gus Meyer on Drums as a group all playing at once. Very few overdubs were needed, allowing for some fun experimentation like the bowed bass for the beginning of the song “Ocean”.  Below is a sample of his song “Wasting Time”, the first song we recorded. After initial sound check, the guys hammered into this song with power and vigor.  I knew I was in for a real treat, as they were well prepared, and really took to owning the songs, showing poise well past their musical years.
